Also known as DJ Chips, Ian is making his third appearance in a row at SSW and The Goldmine Room and Ian said of it, “I can’t wait to experience the whole SSW vibe again”.
With over forty years of record collecting behind him and not being satisfied with playing just one or two facets of Soul music, Ian brings a wealth of knowledge to the party. He describes what he does as ‘just a hobby’ but Ian has been taking this hobby far more seriously than most other DJ’s who make a career out of the art of music mingling. From those early DJing days at the local youth clubs in his early teens, to more recent times where he has been found filling the dancefloors at events in mainland Spain, Tenerife, throughout Scotland and the North of England, you can safely say he’s a bit more than a hobbyist.
A residency in ‘The Well’ in his home town of Workington, just along the coast from Stanwix and the promoting of Soul Nights in the satellite towns of Carlisle make Ian a true local music hero. Apart from knowing it’s going to be a vinyl only set, it is difficult to predict what Ian’s slots are going to include as he moves rapidly through the musical spectrum and tends to follow the dancefloor, he is blessed with the knack of being able to work the room and THAT is what makes a great DJ. It’s hard not to enjoy dancing or listening to Ian’s sets as his infectious passion and positivity mingle with the already heady SSW vibe to create yet another magical Goldmine memory. To say his Goldmine slots are one of the most anticipated moments at SSW is an understatement. “Once more to the dancefloor my friends” is his SSW cry.
