Project Description

Marc A. Evans is a native Baltimorean, he was born into music, destiny shone upon him.  The son of a vocalist and Jazz saxophonist and his mother was a violinist and vocalist also, Marc didn’t discover his own love affair with music until his late teens.

As a Chemistry/Pre-Med student at Morgan State University, under the tutelage of Dr. Nathan Carter, Marc began nurturing a love for music.  Out of that nurturing arises one of the most sultry, smoky baritones ever to grace our scene.  That smooth voice meshed with a passionate and soulful delivery sets Evans apart from the rest of the pack as one of the most talented vocalists of the millennium.

After performing on the MD/DC/VA Open-Mic Jam Sessions and live band hot spots both as a solo artist and with his band Soul Centered, Evans concluded that there was something missing in his music.  Inspired by lyrical greats such as Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder and Sade, Evans decided to focus as much on his lyrical development as his musical craftsmanship.  Evans began to write and perform poetry on the open-mic circuit.  As The Songbyrd, Evans traveled and performed with the poetry trio Da Minista, JaHipster and The Songbyrd up and down the East Coast from Massachusetts to the Carolinas.

On his independent label VOR Music Group, Evans released The First Seven YearsVOR LiveLive & Acoustic and Intervention.  His writing caught the attention of international DJ/producer and fellow Baltimore homeboy DJ Spen.  Their work together resulted in the massive club anthem The Way You Love Me and The Way You Love Me Deluxe Edition (Code Red Recordings/Defected Records UK)The Promise is another huge track performed by Evans and it cemented his ability to not only record soulful House anthems but set the Soul club dance floors alight too.

Defected Records scooped up a multitude of Evans’ work and no wonder, when Blues And Soul Magazine compare an artiste to the talents of the great Donny Hathaway, you know there is something magical about to happen in the studio and on stage.   Balancing his talents in both areas and also his written word capabilities, confirm Evans’ ability is miles beyond a one-dimensional artiste. Expect House, Soul, RnB, Jazz and so much more from this ridiculously talented man who makes a VERY rare appearance in the UK with full band.
